truth #8 – Sometimes I feel like I am a lousy parent.  Today was proof.  My son Gavin has cavities.. multiple cavities.  His super close teeth mixed with my lack of diligence in regards to brushing and flossing has now landed us in the hands of a pediatric dentist.  He had one cavity filled today with our regular dentist who, immediately after looking at his x-rays, pulled me into the other room.  He didn’t give me the “taking to” I was expecting, instead he was very nice and promised that he has seen much worse in the mouths of much smaller children.  He would definitely suggest getting the work done with a pediatric dentist who will likely do each of the cavities in one sitting.  (likely with nitrous oxide which scares the bejeebees out of me)

While having the one cavity filled this morning Gavin did amazing.  Although I felt like a giant, big, fat, yucky, bummer of a momma, I sure was proud of how well he handled everything.  He didn’t flinch, whimper, whine, cry, pout, nothing.. he just sat in that chair like a big strong boy and was awesome :)

I held it together and surprisingly didn’t cry at all.  Yea right!

Although this whole situation makes me feel this big and it’s all very embarrassing, I really just feel bad for Gavin.  He is now the one who has to deal with getting this work done.  I just pray he doesn’t develop this fear of dentists since he has done so well with them up to this point.  The pediatric dentist we are taking him to looks pretty freakin’ cool so hopefully he’ll just associate dentists with fun toys and treasure chests full of neat prizes.

don’t forget to brush & floss every morning & every night – no exceptions!

truth #7.

I painted Gabby’s toe nails for the first time today.. OH.MY.GOODNESS. talk about adorable! {a little sloppy, but adorable!}  And just so you know, it’s nearly impossible to get a photo of a 15 month olds painted piggy toes but I am determined =)

green beans :)

On March 22 Gage had his first taste of ‘real food’ – we started with green beans and you would have thought the kid was eating the greatest thing on earth!  He had no trouble all all, he knew exactly what to do :)  Steven fed him a little then I got a turn.  It was very exciting but a little a lot sad for me too. (but I didn’t cry!) He’s our last little baby so that was our last ‘first meal’ event.  Since then he’s had cereal and bananas and has done great with both. (I know we did things a little backwards but oh well!) DSC_0697 DSC_0701 DSC_0704 DSC_0706 DSC_0709 DSC_0714 DSC_0717 DSC_0721 DSC_0723 DSC_0727

a note & Wee Bit of Me!

Reason # 589,215,774,309 that I LOVE my mother DSC_0742

Hi Weezie Bug – This is just your Mom wanting to tell you how VERY much I love you – like a billion times muchermostest!! :)  And, I am very proud of you.  You are such a wonderful daughter – an amazing mother – and an all’round gentle and loving human being.  All of us whose lives you touch are supremely fortunate.  Have a super duper funtastic day!  Love you – Mom

I found this note from my mom tucked into my work planner/notebook.  She babysat for us on Saturday night and snuck it in there that evening.  I just came across it yesterday while taking notes during a phone call with a client.  After the call was over I just cried (not surprised, huh!)  This melted my heart and again confirmed that my mother is awesome and beyond thoughtful :)  Love you muchermostest more times infinity Mom!!

Wee Bit of Me Wednesdays! I can’t figure out how to add the adorable button/link she has on her site so this boring link will have to do :)

{one} what was your first job?

Summer of 1999, when I was 16, I worked as a ‘junior janitor’ at the high school I attended.  Me and a couple friends cleaned the entire school over the summer.. scrubbed floors, cleaned the cafeteria, scrapped gum from the bottom of desks, I even had to vacuum every.single.stinkin’ chair in our entire auditorium.

{two} have you ever seen a stand up comedian?

YES! In the fall of 2007 Steven and I saw Bill Engvall live at the York Fair!

{three} when was the last time you played mini golf?

last summer we played when we went to the beach.. Gavin got 2 hole-in-ones!

{four} what was the last picture you took?

I just took a few of Gabby playing with a bunch of newspapers on the floor – I will appropriately call it ‘what happens when mommy is talking to clients on the phone and not paying attention to me!’

{five} burnt food: yes or no?

Do I like burnt food, no!  Have I ever burnt food, of course!

{six} if you have a pocket full of change, what do you do with it?

it depends on where I am with that pocket full of change.. If I am out shopping I use it, I don’t mind paying with change.  If I am in my bedroom changing my clothes and it’s in my pocket then it goes into my little change box.  Otherwise it usually goes into my wallet.

{seven} can you touch your tongue to your nose?

nope.. just tried it, definitely can’t.

{eight} do you scrapbook?

I did when Gavin was a baby.  Now I just don’t have the time but would love to get back into it when the kiddos are a little older.  I’ve got a whole entire bin full of stamps, stickers, cardstock, fancy scissors, markers and fun pens so when I get that free time I am all ready to dig in!

{nine} do you buy lottery tickets?

Not on a regular basis..  The last time I purchased one was on the day of my Grammie’s funeral services.  She played ‘309’ in the daily number ever day when I was a kid so I bought a ticket for her, myself, my mom and my aunt.  The daily number (for the mid-day) drawing that day was 209 – so we were close :)

{ten} do you prefer to be in front of the camera or behind it?

definitely behind it, but it is nice to have some photos of me with my family and friends too!

I’ll be back sometime soon to share about Gage’s first experience with baby food!! :)  [and NO, I didn’t cry!!]

   372 me & both my boys!!Bears game

Saturday night we went to a hockey game with a bunch of people from Steven’s side of the family. It was a lot of fun and I feel blessed that myself and my children have such great people to share such special memories with.  I think it’s safe to say we’re not only family but great friends too and that really makes spending time together a lot of fun!  Top Row L-R = Christina (cousin), Aunt Donna (Steven’s aunt), Steven, Travis (great friend and ‘adopted brother’), Michael (my brother-in-law), Uncle Wayne (Steven’s uncle) Bottom Row l-R = David (cousin), Elisa (David’s girlfriend), Amanda (Michael’s girlfriend), Gavin (huge hockey fan - who wouldn’t take his eyes of the ice for a photo!), Chris (brother-in-law), Christy (sister-in-law – Chris’ wife), Natalie (great friend, ‘adopted sister’ and my son’s crush!) and myself with Gavin’s Cocoa Bear =)

well, if you’re still here thanks for hanging on through all those photos.  Now it’s time for bed.  I cannot have a repeat of this morning so I need to get some sleep.  Gage woke up this morning around 5:30 a.m. and would not fall back to sleep so I brought him in bed with me.  Well, for some reason everyone decided they wanted to sleep in this morning so I didn’t wake up again until the clock read 8:19 a.m.!  Great right… NO, not when you have an appointment with a new client at your office at 8:30 a.m.!  not cool.

LOVE & BLESSINGS!

Finally!!

We’ve got a roller =)  I seriously never thought Gage was going to roll but today he proved me wrong! (and yes, I cried)

photos will be posted later!

I [heart] music!

truth #6 – I am obsessed with music.  I’d listen to music all day every day if I could.  I enjoy a large array of music – my CD book and iPod are proof of that =)  Most recently the song Blessings by Laura Story has touched me.

On Wednesday night I saw this song posted on Jess’ blog The Macs but I didn’t have time to listen to it or read the lyrics because it was getting late and I needed to head to bed.  Well, while I was driving to meet with a client on Thursday and was thinking about my Grammie and how much I miss her this song came on the radio.  I knew as soon as I heard the title it was the song Jess had posted and I felt my heart instantly open because these were words I needed to hear.  I was so touched by the words.. in many ways that I just can’t quite describe.. they really spoke to my heart.  Obviously we face difficult situations in our lives that are so painful and some of us wonder, where is God in this.. why would God do this.. it just doesn’t make sense.. I don’t understand God’s plan.. why can’t He just take the pain away and make things better again.. why me God, why me?

But maybe these are the trials we need to face to know that God’s promise is true, God is real, God is love.  Maybe, as the song says, God’s blessings come through raindrops, the hard times, the sleepless nights, the tears.  He is the Almighty Father, in control and worthy of all our love, no matter what.

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not our home

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise

Thanks for posting about this song Jess.. had I not seen it on your blog I don’t think I would have paid as much attention to it as I did.  And I have to admit, while listening to the song I couldn’t help but think of you, your family and your beautiful Cora.  You are an inspiration to all, so thank you!

5 ? Friday!

I should be working but this weather makes it hard to concentrate =)  Here's my 5 Question Friday from Mama M's My Little Life!  And I know I'm behind on my 'truths' so I will try to work on some real soon.. but not tonight because tonight is a GIRLS NIGHT!!  WOOHOOO =)

1. Have you ever testified in court? For what?  yes, only for my job.  I go to court and testify for our Termination of Parental Rights hearing.  As the pregnancy counselor I go and testify before the judge for our Termination of Parental Rights hearing; I explain the adoption planning process, verify the signatures on the forms, explain that it was my client's decision, etc.  It was very scary at first but now I am used to it and our judge is awesome!

2. Do you still have your wedding dress?

I still have both.. no, I wasn't married twice but I do have 2 dresses.  I have the one I purchased when Steven and I were planning our big traditional wedding for August 5, 2006 and I also have the one that I actually wore when we got married.. March 28, 2006 - in Honolulu, Hawaii - after we decided to forgo the traditional, very expensive wedding and save that money since Baby Bean (aka Gavin) surprised us and would be coming in October, 2006.

3. Is there a special place you like to go when you're happy, sad, stressed, etc.?

Not really one special place; I do like to drive when I'm feeling sad or stressed but that's not always possible with 3 kiddos.  It's hard when you work full time and have 3 children; there isn't much alone time to deal with these emotions.

4. If you have kids, do they sleep with you? If you don't have kids...will you let your kids sleep with you when/if you have them?

Gavin and Gabby no longer sleep with me.. Gage does sometimes when he wakes up at 4, 5 or 6 a.m. and won't fall back to sleep by himself.  I did the same thing with Gavin and Gabby when they were Gage's age.

5. Do you watch late night TV?

occasionally.. I try not to stay up too late,  I need my beauty sleep ;o)
