doctor visit recap! {& other fun stuff!}

So we took our little sweet potato to her 2 month well baby visit today.. I'll just say she's not so little anymore!  Gabby now weighs 12 lbs 2 oz and is 24 1/4 inches long!!  That means she is above the 95th percentile for height and in the 90th percentile for weight.  Holy cow - how is it that my tiny little 7 pound chickadee now weighs 12 pounds?!!  She got a ton of vaccines (even an oral one) and was not lovin' life afterward.  Tears lasted for a few minutes but thankfully she settled down as soon as I put her into her carseat.  She goes back in 2 months for her 4 month check up =)
I started back to work on Monday.  Steven brought the kids over and we had lunch together so I wasn't away from them the entire day (which made a world of difference!)  I've been very busy getting caught up and organized that the separation has not been too difficult but certainly not easy.  My coworker Amy had post placement visits with two babies that were born shortly before I had Gabby so it was great to see them (and they helped with my baby fix!)  I really do have a very interesting and meaningful job - some days I love it - other days I contemplate other careers - but ultimately I do enjoy it and really feel like I am making a difference in the lives I'm involved in.

While reading up on the blogs I follow I came across this video on Kelly's blog.  I realize it's 8 minutes long but I promise every second will be worth it.  I've watched it about a dozen times now and still cry with each piece of cardboard.  I've been thinking about what my cardboard would say..

Pretty powerful.. huh?!  Have you thought about what yours would say?
Okay, if you've made it this far.. and I sure hope you have.. here are some recent photos!

Gabby is 2 months old!

My how time flies.. my sweet potato is already 2 months old.  It's so hard to believe - I can remember her birth so clearly, I feel like it was just this morning.  She has been an amazing baby [and I'm not just saying that] - she really has been very easy to care for.  Gabby cries when she is hungry or really wet; other than that she is very content and just loves to hang out and look around.  It has been just a joy watching her grow, change and develop a little personality.  I think she gets more beautiful each day and my love grows for her every time I see her face.  Our family is so blessed to have her =)  [I just looked back and read Gabby's one month post and this first paragraph is so similar to what I wrote last month.. kinda weird!]  Here are some of the fun stuff Gabby has been up to for the past month:
  • I don't know how much you weigh but you see the DR on Tuesday so I will post it then!
  • You met your Great Grammie!!! [this was a dream come true for me!]
  • You grew a ton and are now wearing 0-3 month clothes - except for your Gerber onesies, those run small so you are in 3-6 months!
  • You are still in size 1 diapers but I don't think it will be long before we're buying size 2s.
  • You smiled at me for the first time on January 6th - since then you have been smiling like crazy - and it's BEAUTIFUL!!
  • You have started to find your voice - your favorite conversation has been talking to Daddy about buying a pretty pink bathing suit and going to the beach to play in the ocean!
  • You still love bath time and you are a pro in the car!
  • Your bouncy seat is a favorite nap spot.
  • Your first night in your crib was January 30th - you slept great and have not had any troubles since!
  • You slept through the night for the first time on January 23rd - right at 7 weeks old - which is exactly the same time Gav started sleeping through the night.
  • You've definitely caught on to our nighttime routine and that definitely makes me happy!
  • Your dimples are still incredibly adorable!
  • I don't know how much longer your eyelashes can grow =)
  • You have insanely strong legs for a 2 month old.
  • You are drinking 4-6 ounces per feeding - we still haven't figured out a consistent feeding schedule during the day - you eat when you're hungry!
  • You had your first trip to a different state - we went to Maryland to eat at Golden.Corral.  You slept through the entire meal and no one could believe you slept through all the noise!
  • You took your first trip to an elementary school - we went to visit Grammie at her work so she could show you off  introduce you to her coworkers and students!!
  • You still have the most adorable nose!

I may post more later (lots more to talk about) but for now I am going to go and snuggle with my sleeping beauty since today is my last day of maternity leave.  To be honest I'm not at all looking forward to going back to work but I know once I get back into the swing of things I will be okay.  I work with a great group of people and I know they have been praying for me and will be a great support as I transition back into the adoption world.
she is not a fan of the hat - I on the other hand love it!

AWESOME NEWS!! (& Not Me Monday!)

Oh my goodness there is so much exciting news to share =)

GAVIN IS FINALLY IN BIG BOY UNDERWEAR!!!  He has been going peepee in the potty for almost 2 months now but just would not go poo in the potty so we still had him in pull-ups.  Yesterday I decided, enough is enough, I am just going to put him in underwear and maybe.. just maybe.. he won't want to poo on Buzz Lightyear so he will poo in the potty.  HA, it worked =)  He had zero accidents yesterday and actually pooed in the potty quite a bit (TMI!)  Today, he is wearing McQueen and of course he does not want to poo on McQueen.  WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!  I think we can [fingers crossed] finally ditch those pull-ups for good!!

AND - last night was Gav's first night in his new twin bed and he loved it!  Thank you to my parents, my brother and my aunt for your help with the bed =)  And of course my niece Noodle!!  When it was time for bed last night I was a little nervous because I wasn't sure how he would do, but of course, he climbed right into bed, pulled the covers up, snuggled with his animals and was ready to close those big brown eyes.  I started bawling.. not just little tears.. big crocodile - my baby isn't a baby - how can he be big enough to sleep in a twin bed - he will be a teenager in the blink of an eye - kind of tears... it was bad.  And of course, what does my husband say to cheer me up - "soon it will be her" (meaning Gabby.)  Thanks babe, that just makes it so much better.. NOT!

before - little bed.

after - big bed.

Speaking of Gabby.. Saturday night (1.30.10) was her first night in her crib.  She had been sleeping in a bassinet in our room but just didn't have enough room to wiggle like she enjoys doing.  I gave her a bottle and put her down around 11:20 pm - she was up at 4:30 am for another 4 oz then was back in her crib by 5:05 am.  She then woke up around 8:30 am - awesome, she likes her crib!!  Last night was even better - I put her down around midnight - she was a little fussy around 6:30 a.m. so I gave her her paci and she fell back to sleep until 8:15 a.m.  This is great since I will be going back to work on Monday.. hopefully she continues to sleep well at night =)

Man, lots of big stuff happening.. big boy underwear, a big big boy bed and our little lady sleeping in her crib!  Her are some [okay, a lot!] of photos of the last few days..

what a face!!

sneeze!

Here is my 'Not Me' Monday --

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I did not take 694 photos during the month of January.. that's not possible!
I am not afraid to reveal that number to my hubby.. [although he may read this so I think I'm not in trouble!]
We did not drive over an hour to a Golden Corral for dinner.  I did not stuff myself full of yummy sweat tea and rolls.. I would never eat that poorly when I'm trying to kick all this extra baby weight.
I am not super frustrated that all of Gabby's nursery decor is now 30% off - after we just finished decorating her nursery - nope, not frustrated at all!!
I am not still rockin' out to Christmas CDs in my car and in my kitchen!

Okay, I'm done.. goodnight!
